How do I play a video?

To play a video, double-click on it. It should then load in the Player window.

If you can't select a video in your Library because you just added it to a channel, try refreshing your Library.

Can I upload videos to Vidista?

No, Vidista does not host video files. Instead, Vidista is able to play videos hosted by other popular video sharing websites, like YouTube and Google Video. If you have videos you would like to add to Vidista, try uploading them to one of our supported video sharing sites, then add them to your Library.

How do I add videos to Vidista?

There are two techniques for adding videos to your Vidista Library:

Which video sharing sites are supported?

At this time, the following video sharing sites are supported by Vidista:

* - These sites do not support the Vidista Button for adding videos to your library. To add videos from these sites, you must copy and paste the "Embeddable Player" code and Video Title manually from the website.

Why won't this video play?

If you double-click on a video and it does not load in the Player window, there are a variety of reasons why it may not work:

The video may not play because it has been removed from the video sharing site where it is being hosted. You will often see a message in the video player that says something like, "This video has been removed by its author," if this is the case.

If you just added a new video to your Library and it won't play, it may be because the video sharing site that hosts the video does not allow it to be embedded into other websites like Vidista.

If you just added a new video to your Library by copying and pasting in the URL or Embed Code, you may have accidentally altered the address or code, which results in a broken link. In this situation, try adding the video to your library again, this time being careful to copy the URL or Embed Code exactly. You can also try using the Vidista Button.

If you are trying to play a video from your Library that you have recently added to a channel, it will drop to the bottom of your Library list and you will no longer be able to select it or play it. Try refreshing your Library, or reordering your Library list to reactivate the link.

Why won't this video play automatically?

Some video sharing websites do not allow embedded videos to play automatically for various reasons. However, they usually provide a large "Play" button in the middle of the video player so you can start it when you are ready.

Why can't I add this video to my Library?

First things first, try refreshing your library. Sometimes when you add a video to your Library, your Library list does not update until you click the "Refresh Library" button.

If you are trying to add a new video to your Library from a video sharing site, check to make sure the site is supported by Vidista. To prevent against the possibility of spam or inappropriate material, you may only add videos from supported sites.

If you are trying to add a video that already appears in Vidista, you may not be able to add it to your Library if it is not actually a video. For instance, Inbox messages, Help files, and advertisements cannot be added to your Library.

Note: The Vidista Button does not support certain sites (see "Which video sharing sites are supported?"). To add videos from these sites, you must copy and paste the "Embeddable Player" code and Video Title manually from the website.

What is a video URL or Embed Code?

The video URL is the internet address of the video's original location. For instance, a YouTube video would have a URL that looks like "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1yKq6YelYc". Generally, when you are browsing a video sharing site like YouTube, the URL is the address in the location bar of your browser. Most sites also provide the URL (sometimes called a permalink) on the page somewhere near the video.

The video Embed Code is the HTML code snippet provided by the original video sharing site that allows you to embed the video into your own website or blog. Most sites also provide the Embed Code on the page somewhere near the video.

On YouTube, you can find both the URL and Embed Code to the right of the video:

How do I remove/delete a video from my Library?

To remove a video from your Library, click on the "Library" tab of the Videos panel, select the video you wish to remove from your Library list by single-clicking on it, then click the "Delete" button at the bottom of your Library list.

When you remove a video from your Library, Vidista deletes all instances of it that have been saved in your Library. However, the video is never removed entirely from Vidista, and it will remain in any channels to which it has already been added.

Can I edit the title of a video after I add it?

To edit the title of a new video that you have added to your Library, click on the "Library" tab of the Videos panel, select the video you want to edit by single-clicking on it, then click the "Edit" button at the bottom of your Library list. A form will appear with the video URL and title. Edit the title and then click on the "Save changes" button.

Note: If you were not the first user to add this video to Vidista, you will not be able to edit the title.

Why can't I edit the title of a video?

You may not be able to edit the title of a video if you were not the user who originally added it to Vidista. Only that user has permission to edit the video title.

Why do videos disappear from my Library when I add them to a channel?

When you drag and drop a video from your Library to a channel, the instance of the video in your Library drops to the bottom and becomes inactive. This is intended to make it easy to distinguish between videos you've already added those you have not. To make the video active again, click the "Refresh Library" button, or reorder your Library list by clicking on "Title" or "Source" at the top.

Why can't I select this video?

A video in your Library may be inactive (you can't select it, and it becomes italicized) if you have recently added it to a channel. To make the video active again, click the "Refresh Library" button, or reorder your Library list by clicking on "Title" or "Source" at the top.

How do I sort, organize, or reorder my Library?

You can sort, reorder, or organize your library by clicking on "Title" or "Source" at the top your Library list. This will sort the videos in your Library alphabetically within the category. Click again to reverse the order.
